The Difference Between the Healthy and the Unhealthy
Healthy people understand the importance of being proactive when it comes to health. Unhealthy people use a reactive approach to their health situations. Embracing the 5 P’s of being proactive (Predict, Prevent, Plan, Participate, and Perform) allows the healthy to cultivate a mindset that ensures success in the dynamic and ever-developing realm of Health. When we are not proactive, we allow unhealthy habits and practices to ruin us.
Principles of Healthy Living
Most people do not know that health is influenced by many factors, which can be grouped into five broad categories called determinants of health.
They do not know the impact of:
Economic stability and financial resources: Includes food insecurity and the ability to afford healthy foods
Access to healthcare services: Includes understanding of healthcare services
Education access & quality: Includes understanding childhood education and development
Social and community context (Relationships): Includes relationships with family, friends, and community members
Physical environment (Neighborhood): Includes the external surroundings and conditions in which we live, such as air, trees, lakes, and the ocean
Other determinants of health include: Genetics, Individual behavior, Social factors, Policy-making, Culture, and Ethnicity.
The lack of knowledge about Health principles is the number 1 reason people are unhealthy. Remember - Principles work for you if you understand and use them, and against you if you do not.
Believe that your Higher Power Wants You to Be Healthy
Healthy people understand that you are the best when living in your purpose. We believe it is God’s and our desire to have a body free of disease and functioning at its best. In 3 John 2, the following prayer is offered: “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” Let's analyze the scripture - We must know that abundant living requires our mental, physical, and spiritual health. If we only apply the scripture to our mental and spiritual health, we will neglect the importance of caring for our bodies. Christ’s ministry here on earth emphasizes the physical healing of the sick and relates it closely to the principles of overall health. Health issues are always a combination of mental, physical, and spiritual problems. Knowing this allows us to understand how many people end up broken on their health journey. People who neglect 1 of the 3 end up in an unhealthy position with no hope in sight. Too often people depend on medications or faith/prayer without works. There is nothing wrong with using reasonable medications, but it would also be appropriate to use God’s basic instructions for abundant living:
Fruitfulness
Growth
Multiplication
Expansion
Structure
Organization
Stewardship of society
Care for the natural world
for good health.
Believing that your higher power wants you to be healthy is a principle that allows you to measure your trust in God. Healthy people know that God’s principles work to our advantage. We must take the necessary steps to receive and apply whatever God wants to show us. We will continue looking at the differences between the habits and practices of the healthy and the unhealthy.
